Love At First Sight–Our First Time Visiting Panama
I found this article that I wrote back in April 2009–Bocas Del Toro, Panama Adventure! We were living in Uvita, Costa Rica at the time.
It really sums up well why we love it here in Panama so much.
I hope you enjoy reading it!

Andrew and I decided that it was time to see Panama. Lucky for us we met some nice people who lived in Bocas del Toro who invited us there! It’s quite easy to get to Panama from Costa Rica, especially from Uvita. Last Monday we took an early morning bus (5am) from Uvita to Ciudad Neilly. From Neilly we took a taxi to la frontera (the border). After getting stamped out of Costa Rica and getting our visas and tourist cards (Panama requires that you purchase a tourist card that costs $5), we walked across to Panama!
Once we arrived to Panama, we realized that we missed our flight from David City to Bocas del Toro ($36 each way). Lucky for us we were able to take a bus. We took one bus from the border to David and another one from David to Bocas. One thing that I loved about Panama was how beautiful the roads were! They were just as nice as the ones in the United States! The roads in Costa Rica unfortunately are not so nice! Lots of rocks and dirt, although sometimes you can be blessed with a paved one!
On the bus from David to Bocas, we saw beautiful mountains, lots of greenery, waterfalls, streams–it was paradise! The ride was four hours. Although it was a shame we missed our flight, at least we got to see the beautiful Panamanian countryside!
Once we arrived in Bocas, we took a boat to Isla Colon. The ride cost only $4 and lasted half an hour. It was quite a fun ride! Andrew really enjoyed himself!
Our dear friend, “Easy” met us and brought us back to his house. His house is on a boat dock on the Caribbean sea. We got to see our other dear friend, Jim along with his new girlfriend. Easy had a beautiful fruit salad of watermelon and pineapple waiting for us!
While in Bocas, we visited the beach, walked around town, bought fruits and vegetables, and even went on a tour to see dolphins! We saw quite a few of them! The boat captain let Andrew drive the boat as well!
We had a lovely four days in Bocas! We managed to make our return flight to David where we met a nice man who owned a hotel in Bocas. He invited us to see his farm near David where he grew cantaloupe, bananas, yuca, greens and tons of other stuff! Unfortunately a group of cows broke into his farm and ate all of the cantaloupes! Well it’s nice to know that the cows had such good taste in fruit!
We made it back to Uvita quite late last Friday evening, but that didn’t stop us from embarking on another adventure the next day!
