Misconceptions About Candida and Fruit–What TRULY causes Candida Overgrowth
There’s a HUGE MYTH going around that eating a high fruit diet causes candida yeast overgrowth.
Candida is caused by eating a high FAT diet, not a high FRUIT diet.
I got the WORST yeast infection of my life when I followed this diet:
THE ATKINS DIET
That’s right, the ATKINS DIET, the NO FRUIT eating, low carb, HIGH FAT diet gave me the WORST yeast infection. I’ll skip the details and just sum it up with this:
IT WAS PURE TORTURE.
(I’m sure women who have experienced a yeast infection can relate to the TORTURE.)
This happened to me a few years prior to my becoming vegan. I remember wondering at the time, “Why would I have such a bad yeast infection while on the Atkins Diet?”
Recently I learned the explanation:
Eating a high fat diet will cause excess candida growth due to the glucose remaining too long in the bloodstream, causing the normal population of candida to multiply rapidly.
Switching to a Low Fat Raw Diet has helped me tremendously with candida overgrowth due to my blood sugar levels constantly remaining at a normal level.
High fat diets keep the blood sugar levels elevated thus causing the candida to multiply rapidly.
Low fat diets keep the blood sugar levels normal so only the small amounts of candida necessary to help keep us alive are fed.
Since the candida organism is beneficial to us in small amounts, keeping those organisms in check is essential to keeping them from multiplying beyond normal levels and causing us problems.
A Low Fat Raw Diet is the solution to keeping candida at suitable levels.
Read The 80 10 10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham to learn more.
Here’s something that not many people know about Candida:
Candida Overgrowth Can Happen To Men As Well.
My companion, Roger Haeske, had a candida overgrowth that showed up as a rash on his skin.
He realized the culprit: a high fat diet. He cured his candida thanks to switching over to a Low Fat, High Fruit Raw Diet.
He currently eats around 3500 calories a day and almost all of them come from fruit (he also enjoys plenty of vegetables thanks to his world famous raw “Savory Veggie Stew.”)
He also has beautiful skin …
Oh and a strong, muscular and sexy body!
He came up with the perfect low fat raw diet system, “How To Go Raw”. Check it out: http://sn.im/hpp98
He’s done all the work for you. Why waste time experimenting with other diets?
Still not sure?
Here is a recent picture of Roger:

Roger at age 41
Remember, he follows a low fat, high fruit raw diet.
Here is a picture I found on the internet of Dr Atkins (R.I.P):

Dr Atkins (R.I.P) before his death
Compare Roger’s physique to Dr Atkins’ (R.I.P) physique.
Hmmm … who’s body do you prefer?
The choice is obvious–I’m sure almost all would prefer Roger’s body.
Dr Atkins (R.I.P) prior to his death was about 6 ft tall and weighed about 200 lbs.
Roger is 6′3 and weighs about 160lbs.
Dr Atkins (R.I.P) could have benefited from Roger’s “How to Go Raw” Program as he probably carried around 50lbs of excess weight.

P.S. Switch over to a 100% low fat, high fruit raw diet for the next month. Roger’s “How to Go Raw Program” will get you started. I’m telling you it works! I no longer have ANY cooked food cravings. Plus my friend, Candida, is in UNDER CONTROL. Here are some benefits to following his 80 10 10 style program:
* eat like a pig and still get lean
* have an abundance of energy
* have energy for sex
* have a beautiful body
* say SAYONARA to Candida problems
BTW The benefits above are some of my experiences following the “How To Go Raw” program: http://sn.im/hpp98

I think you mean “following a program based upon Dr Douglas Graham’s 80-10-10RV diet”. As it is currently worded, it appears that 80-10-10 is attributable to Roger. Cheers! And congrats on your marriage!

Hi Milko,
Thank you for your post. Your physique looks outstanding. However, most people who eat meat and animal fat do not have your body. Most people who only eat fresh fruits and vegs have an outstanding physique.
I am aware of those who believe early humans ate a lot of animal products. It’s true that early humans did eat some animal products, but did so only when fresh fruit was unavailable. It’s much easier to obtain fruit than it was to hunt and kill an animal. I’m sure that early humans would rather NOT have worked so hard to obtain an animal when there was an abundance of fresh fruit.
Early humans also only ate animals in small amounts as meat was quite scarce. Even The Blood Type Author, Dr. D’Adamo stresses in his book that blood type O should not feast on 16 oz steaks as meat was quite scarce. Blood type O is supposed to thrive on having the most animal protein, which the author recommends in tiny amounts (2-5 oz for women and children and 4 to 6 oz for men).
I am a type O and I’m actually doing better without including animal products in my diet.
Human breast milk is only 1% protein and human infants THRIVE on it, doubling in size within 6 months and tripling in size within a year (I watched my type O son double in size in just 4 months exclusively on my breast milk).
Now if this is enough protein for a baby, then it’s more than enough for an adult who’s not growing like an infant!
I hope you find this information useful. I wish you the best in your quest for health!

Hi Karmyn, I was excited to see your post because I am type O too and have been off and on raw for several years, but have always found it difficult to find the right balance. What do you typically eat in a day? Did you have an bllood sugar issues? I sometimes feel spacey when I eat a lot of fruit, is this somehting that will go away you think? Thank you so much!

Hi Callie,
I follow a low fat, high fruit raw diet. I eat what’s in season and whatever attracts me most. Right now I’ve been eating a lot of tangerines.
Yesterday I drank tangerine juice and I also ate some tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach and medjool dates. I also ate Savory Veggie Stew and a Lower Fat Seed Pate that my boyfriend, Roger, makes so well!
Blood sugar issues are actually caused by too much fat in the diet, not too much fruit, especially when fruit and fat are eaten together.
Most fruits are actually LOW in sugar by weight since most fruits are 80-90% water, which is our second most important nutrient.
Feeling spacey after eating a lot of fruit can be caused by detox.
I find it so amazing when meat eaters, concerned about pesticide residues buy organic fruits and vegetables while still eating factory farmed meat and dairy.
Meat and dairy contain way more pesticide residues than conventionally grown fruits and vegs.
Off all the conventionally produced food groups fresh fruits and vegs have the LEAST amount of toxins.
This could explain the “spacey” feeling from eating a lot of fruit. You’re lightening up your toxin load so your body has a chance to catch up cleaning you out (these toxins are stored in your body fat).
Eating a small amount of a fatty fruit like an avocado will slow down the detox symptoms you’re experiencing.
Of course the spacey feeling will go away once your body gets cleaner.
Another thing you must be sure of is that you’re eating ENOUGH fruit to meet your fuel needs. How much fruit do you eat at each meal? What have you been eating lately?
I’m glad I could be of help, Callie!
All the best,
Karmyn

Hi Karmyn!
Thank you so much for replying to my questions. Right now I dont really have a very set routine of what I eat, I have at least one green smoothie a day, I’ve been doing clementines and grapes as well. i think my problem is hearing so many conflicting opinions that my head is kind of confused if you know what I mean. I did a juice cleanse for 40 days several years ago and then tried to go into high fruit eating. Well I did end up eating high fruit and not much fats but I wasnt 100% raw either, probably around 75-85%. One thing that is important to me is being able to lose weight, I have dealt with thyroid and adrenal issues and it has been difficult if not impossible for me to lose weight and keep it off. When I was mostly raw for about 6 months I only lost about 15 lbs which was frustrating. It seemed that cleansing was the only way to get things moving quickly. Anyway if you have any advice it would be much appreciated. I have been reading the Body Ecology diet material which is using fermented foods, ocean veggies etc but it has little to no fruit. I think I may try to combine the use of those veggies with my fruit eating. I do want to get rid of a candida problem. Thank you again for your help it really means a lot!

Hi Callie,
I’m glad I can be of help to you!
First thing I want to do is CONGRATULATE you on your weight loss!
Losing 15 pounds in six months is something to be proud of!
I think I may have an idea on how you can lose the weight at a faster pace–eating 100% raw AND exercising.
The problem with numbers like 75-85% raw is that it could mean different things.
Were you that percentage raw by VOLUME or by CALORIES?
If you were that percentage by VOLUME this could potentially mean that a majority of your calories were from cooked foods.
Let me explain why.
Let’s say you ate a huge veggie salad at lunch and at dinner and a fruit salad (mango, banana & papaya) for breakfast. The cooked food you ate were a veggie burger with the lunch salad and stir fried veggies with brown rice with the dinner salad.
The raw fruit salad let’s say had 500 calories (6 cups of fruit), each veggie salad 200 calories (several cups of lettuce, along with other chopped veggies dressed with lemon juice and a tablespoon of olive oil), the veggie burger 500 calories and the stir fried vegs w/ brown rice 600 calories (2 cups of rice, 1 tbsp sesame oil, plus the mixed vegs).
Although by volume it looks like you ate mostly raw foods, but in reality almost 60% of your calories were from cooked foods, assuming the olive oil used in the salads was raw.
As for all the conflicting information out there, my best advice is to eat the foods you’re attracted to mono style without any condiments.
I can eat mangos, no problem!
Sea veggies, a different story!
They’re tasty in recipes, but have you seen them at the beach?
I’ve been to the beach many times and have seen seaweed wash ashore–it’s not something I have ANY interest in eating! It looks gross and smells gross.
I’m not familiar with the Body Ecology diet–if the diet recommends little to no fruit, then how does the author recommend you get your calories? From cooked carbs? From fat?
Another problem with eating a diet high in sea veggies and fermented foods is that they are high in salt. All that salt will cause water retention, which will interfere with the weight loss you desire (not only by water weight, but salt stimulates the appetite making you eat more food than you need).
Since you’ve had such good experiences with the green smoothies, why not simply continue having those? You can have one at each meal, along with your fruit and drink them by themselves if you need a snack.
You may also find my boyfriend, Roger’s, Savory Veggie Stews System helpful.

I understand the frustration of dealing with health issues. Just remember there are no quick fixes, you just have to be patient.
All the best,
Karmyn

Yes, I can definitely relate to the torture! But as you said, there’s no reason to worry when on a low fat raw vegan diet. You can eat as much fruit as you want and keep your candida colony completely in check.
In fact, the only time I have gotten an infection since going low fat raw back in 2007 was when I started incorporating some fatty cooked foods into my diet during my transition. Big mistake…I was miserable for a week!
